Irish Field Nap - Tuesday

Brighton looks the place to be on Tuesday, with soft ground making most of the declared runners hard to fancy, and few in the opener have solid form with significant ease. Easily the most appealing from a betting perspective is Koharu, who has gained both her wins over C&D, with the latest on good to soft. Both wins came in similar fashion, with Peter Makin's mare swooping late from a wide draw, and it is no worry that she's again parked in the outside stall, as it suits her style of running. It would be a bit more of a concern if the field kept to the stands side in the straight, as that would make it more difficult for her to execute her preferred tactics, with congestion against the stands rail likely.

Later on the card, I was tempted by the claims of Zaeem in the 1m handicap at 3.50. Dean Ivory's charge has shown little on polytrack of late, but has fallen a long way in the weights since his 3-y-o heyday for Godolphin, and is now 17 lb lower than when gaining his sole success in a C&D handicap in June 2012. That came on good ground, but he's run well on soft, and showed his liking for a switchback track when running well on his racecourse bow at Epsom. He represents something of a risk given a lack of recent form, but the drop in trip will suit this keen goer, and a return to this venue could easily spark a revival, so the remaining 25/1 in a race which has cut up badly looks very reasonable indeed.
